Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has confirmed the reports that he will be visiting India soon. During this visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet with the billionaire. The businessman used the social networking platform X (previously Twitter) to confirm this information. The meeting is happening when several articles on the internet discuss Tesla looking for land to locate a factory in the country. In addition, there is also the Indian government’s new EV policy, which tries to attract international businesses to open offices there.
In a post on X, Elon Musk said, “Looking forward to meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India!” Within hours of becoming viral, the post received over 50 million views. As of now, the post has received over 228K likes, and its popularity is growing. The billionaire’s one-line announcement on social media about his trip to India gathered enthusiastic responses from users. Some prominent personalities that welcomed the billionaire on Twitter were superstar Prabhas and HM Amit Shah. Elon Musk (parody) suggested visiting the Taj Mahal and other beautiful places in India.
Government’s Policy
The announcement of a new policy involving electric vehicles and the billionaire’s visit to India is highly noteworthy. It helps decrease tariffs by up to 85% on the import of a specific number of cars (EVs). It may attract investments from reliable foreign manufacturers.
This policy allows businesses to import a specific number of cars at a 15% customs or import duty discount on vehicles. The discount is allowed for automobiles priced at least $35,000 (about Rs 29 lakh) for five years. For that, the companies have to establish passenger electric car manufacturing facilities. The rule demands that EV producers invest a minimum of Rs 4,150 crore ($500 million). In addition, they must have three years to set up production facilities in India.
Overall, we can see a lot of excitement happening with the meeting of Elon Musk and PM Modi.
